That’s a quite common question I get:
I got a new camera and even though I have the latest version of Lightroom (or Photoshop), it doesn’t support my camera. It doesn’t allow me to work on my raw images… What shall I do?
Let’s see what you can do in a situation like this:
1. Check if you have all the latest updates installed. How do you check if you have the latest updates installed? Just choose: Help -> Updates. All Photoshop/Lightroom updates are free, so why not get the latest updates? I don’t see the reason why not.
2. Check if your camera is on the list of supported cameras. If you have just bought a brand new camera that was recently released, it may not be supported yet. I had this issue when I purchased Canon EOS 7 a few weeks after it was released, I waited for about a week or two until Adobe release an update bringing support for this new camera.
Let me give you a link where you can check if your camera is supported:
List of supported cameras for Camera Raw Plugin for Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Lightroom.
If your camera is not on this list because it’s brand new, just be patient and wait for an update. Adobe releases updates every three months or so.
3. If your camera is not on the list of supported cameras, you may want to check Adobe Labs website as there may be a release candidate version of Camera Raw with support for your camera, so you could try it out just before it gets finally released.
I hope you find it useful.
Enjoy! 🙂
