Did you notice any distortions on the images you take? Now you can easily remove them with the Lens Distortion filter in Photoshop CS5!

So what does Lens Correction Filter correct?

• Barrel Distortions
• Pincushion Distortions
• Vignetting
• Chromatic Aberration

You can also use the filter to fix camera tilt (horizontal or vertical), you can also rotate images and Lens Correction filter makes the process easier thanks to its Grid. Filter works with both 8-Bit and 16-Bit images – that’s a great news as 16-Bit gives you a better quality.

Lens Correction filter uses its Lens Profiles database to try to automatically fix the issues. It uses metadata to find out what camera/lens was used and how to fix it.

To access the filer, go to Filter->Lens Correction (the location has changed in Photoshop CS5, in previous versions the filter was located under Filter->Distort->Lens Correction).

Note: Lens Correction Filter in previous versions of Photoshop doesn’t have Lens Profiles database. What I am describing here is a completely new feature in Photoshop CS5.

When you select a Profile inside the Lens Correction dialog box (it should appear automatically based on the metadata), Photoshop will automatically select a matching sub-profile for the lens used based on focal length, f-stop and focus distance. Isn’t that incredible?! 🙂

Here’s how the profile will display in the Lens Correction filter dialog box:

What you may not know is that you can right-click on the profile and change to a different sub-profile! 😉

You can also manually correct lens distortions using the Custom tab in the top right corner of the dialog box. This reminds previous versions of Lens Corrections before Photoshop CS5.
